The Thinking Behind Deals
Monday, March 17th, 2008With the start of Season 2 this week, I am going to be posting on this blog regularly hoping to give you an insight into my thoughts on the world of Einnek Football and some real world stuff too which I think you might find interesting.
The current dilemma in Einnek for me is the valuation of players. Yet again there is a downward spiral in the value of high skill players and I find myself cancelling deals too often for my liking. I have reversed a couple too this week after taking a further look at them. This is confusing me as well as yourselves I am sure!
Somewhere it seems many managers have taken to seeing skill 6s as just a bit better than a skill 5. Previously as a rule of thumb a skill 6 player was worth a minimum of 3 above average skill 5 players. Now this seems to have dropped in many managers minds to 2 less than average skill 5s. WACS seem to be most people’s justification for the lowering of valuations and although this is valid for a skill 6 with 2 or 3 WACS, one with 18 is worth a fair amount more. I hope you all agree?
I have been responsible for letting this spiral gather pace but it has to stop somewhere before a skill 6 is worth two untried skill 5 players with zero international prospects and a dozen WACS each. This may seem extreme but we have been very close to this on 3 or 4 occasions recently. Also I do not want a culture of mistrust to spread into the game where some managers prey on others citing previous deals as an example of why their offer is a good one. No two deals are the same especially when high skills are involved, so this tit-for-tat dealing is not going to wash with me. Nor will the “but I was offered the deal” excuse - if you know the deal is not good then do not try to sneak it past me.
Let’s all try to get some more sense into dealing please. Remember the difference between a skill 6 and a skill 5 is much much more than the difference between a skill 5 and a skill 4. It takes something special to get a player to skill 6 or above so do not throw them away.
